How to complete your badges

Completing and Submitting your Achievements to receive your Badges

Below is some infomation and resources to help you complete your badges but also how to submit completed work in order to receive those badges.

Lots of information about the New Youth program is stored on Scouts Australia Program Resources web page: https://pr.scouts.com.au/

Refer to your UNIT heading below:

Joeys:

  • Tuck is managing the tracking and reporting of your Achievements in Joeys.
  • How Parents can Help your Joey to fill in their 2 books:
  1. If your JOEY has been Invested (recieved their 2nd Turramurra Scarf etc) then fill in the pages for "Intoduction for Scouting" & "Introduction to the JOEY SECTION"`.
  2. Read about the 4 Challenge Areas (CA)
  3. Open the Joey Achievement Reports (link under BADGES)
  4. Download all the Reports (note dates of publication to see if recent work is shown or not).
  5. In the JOEY RECORD Book, fill in the following pages based on these reports:

             a) Use the 1. Joey Attendance and Programs Report to view their attendance at past events, the CA for that event and if they Participated (P), Assisted (A) or Lead (L) at an activity. Start with the earliest date showing they attended and fill in the Milestone (MS) 1 activity description and date on the Particpate pages for the related CA done that date. If they have any Assists (A) listed in the report, write something on the Assist pages for the CA they did the Assist. Same for the Lead (L) pages. Something written is better than nothing! Note: the number of  P, A and L needed to achieve each MS - don't exceed  these. Any extras can be added to the next MS counts even if they have not completed the prior MS! You can check the numbers on the report "JOEY Milestones"

             b) Use the 9. Joey SIA Badge Report  to view the completed SIA badges. Note all components must be completed to achieve these badges - usually 2 hrs work at Joey level. Help your Joey write up something in the SIA pages of the RECORD BOOK. Complete the 3 pages per SIA badge. If not sure, ask a leader. It does not need much detail at Joey age.

             c) Towards the back of the RECORD BOOK are areas for documenting WALKS, CAMP NIGHTS and the PEAK AWARD SUMMARY page.

             d) Using all the reports for various 4,5,6,7,8 Joey OAS xxxxxx Stage 1 Badge Reports and your book OAS (Outdoor Adventure Skills, if your Joey has completed any of the questions eg for BUSHCRAFT Stage 1, then the dates completed will be shown in the report. Put a TICK next to any questions completed. If they wholebadge is completed, they would have received the badge. Ask a leaderto signthe bottom of the page "Unit Council Sign off". Add the date Awarded to that page by looking up details in the 3. Joey Badges Awarded Report. Note the 2 dates per badge, DATE ACHEIVED and DATE AWARDED.

Filling in your books:

  • Reminder that in Scouts, you fill in your own Record Books (Milestones [check the Term Program for the ChallengeAreas (CA)] .
  • YOU need to ensure you put your names down for Assists & Leads when doing our Term Programming on the 1st night of each term.

---> How do you know if you need Leads or Assists? Take a look at the Scout Achievement Reports published by Tuck from time to time:

Scout Achievement Reports - Scouts NSW - 2nd Turramurra Scout Group

  • Plan and document your 6 SIA  Projects (8hrs each). Get your PL/Unit Council to REVIEW before you start. They are there to help/Approve your SIA project.
  • Track your Camps & Hikes (including when in Cubs) in the back of your RECORD BOOKS. Your CAMPER and WALKER badges need this information.

--- Note: For Jamborees, you need 10 nights "under canvas" = camping with scouts ,whilst in the Scout Unit - Family only & Cub camps do not count!

  • Fill in the PEAK AWARD SUMMARY page 84 of your Record Books.
  • Fill in your own OAS questions in the OAS book. Seek help of our PL/UC.
